Q: Have you established the Foundation Charter or By-laws? Will these documents be made public?
The by-laws are public, and posted on the Foundation website. We will have a charter, and that will be drafted in a public, transparent manner based on community and industry partner input.
Q: Who will run the Foundation?
Operationally the foundation will be run by a small staff. The governance of the foundation is provided by a board of directors. The present board is an interim board, and one of its primary tasks is to act as a search committee for the permanent board. We're eager to have input and suggestions on potential board members.
Q: Who is on the Foundation Board? Who are the Foundation officers?
The President of the Board is Sam Ramji. Other board members are Bill Staples, Britt Johnston and Stephanie Boesch of Microsoft, Miguel De Icaza of Novel, and Shaun Walker of DotNetNuke. The only Foundation officer at present is Mark Stone as Deputy Director. Biographies on all of these people are on the Foundation website.
Q: Will the Foundation have an Advisory Board?
The Advisory Board is an important vehicle for insuring that the Foundation gets feedback from the broad range of stake holders in open source. We expect the Advisory Board to very much be the conscience of the Foundation, helping assure it remains a credible, independent voice in open source.
Q: How is the Foundation funded?
We have an initial donation from our founding sponsor, Microsoft. We hope that Microsoft will be a long term backer of the Foundation, and that other companies will provide the donations and contributions needed for the Foundation to flourish.
